FACULTY WORKLOAD CALCULATIONS FOR TEAM TEACHING1
In order for two faculty members to receive full teaching credit for a team-taught
course, the course must
enroll at 1.25x the typical cap.
EXAMPLE: If two faculty members team-teach a four-credit 100-level course with a standard
cap
of 28 students, then an enrollment of 35 students (1.25x28) will earn each of them
the full contact
hours.
If the course enrolls fewer than the required number of students, then each faculty
member receives one
credit hour less than that earned by the students.
EXAMPLE: For a four-credit course that fails to enroll at 1.25x(cap), the faculty
members would
each earn three credits.
NOTES:
- Team teaching is not allowed for Scribner Seminars (although seminars may be scheduled
at the
same time to enable cross-activity between them). Each Scribner Seminar has a single faculty
member who earns four contact hours for the course. - Travel-study courses present a special case because the course caps (currently 7-10
students) are a
matter of OCSE policy. Please consult with OCSE concerning team teaching arrangements. - Department Chairs and Program Directors will need to consider whether allocating a
colleague to a team-taught course is appropriate within the context of overall departmental
and programmatic curricular needs. Faculty should consult with their Department Chair/Program
Director to assess the impacts of a team-taught course. Due to resource constraints,
departments and programs will not be permitted to
backfill for a faculty member who is part of a team-taught course.
