Community service through Federal Work-Study

Federal Work-Study at Skidmore gives eligible students the opportunity to earn money for educational expenses while gaining real-world experience. Whether working on campus or with a local nonprofit, you’ll build professional skills, grow your network, and contribute meaningfully to the Skidmore and Saratoga Springs communities.

Current opportunities:

America Reads & America Counts Tutors

Skidmore partners with the U.S. Department of Education to offer community-based Federal Work-Study opportunities in Saratoga Springs elementary schools. As an America Reads/America Counts tutor, you’ll help boost literacy and math skills, connect with local students, and gain valuable experience — all while making a meaningful impact.

Eligibility:

Only students with Federal Work-Study are eligible to participate in this program. Please contact the Student Employment Coordinator at stuemp@skidmore.edu if you are not sure you receive Federal Work-Study.

Responsibilities:

As an America Reads/America Counts tutor, you represent Skidmore in the local community. Elementary schools — and the students you support — will count on your commitment and reliability. Take this role as seriously as your academic work. You’ll be gaining hands-on experience, serving the Saratoga Springs community, and helping young learners build the skills they need to thrive.
