Achievements: Sept. 16, 2026

Yelena Biberman, associate professor of political science, co-authored “Scientists Saved Us From Catastrophic Risk Before” in Foreign Policy with Sophie Berman ’22 and published “The Future of Bioethics in a Changing World Order” in the LSE Review of Books. She also launched the Bioinsecurity Substack and delivered invited talks at the MIT Media Lab and Bloomsday 2026. 

David Domozych, professor emeritus of biology, published “Structural Coloration in the Red Seaweed, Chondrus crispus” in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and “Streptophyte Algae and Terrestrialization: Breaking Down the Fundamental Challenges From an ECM Perspective” in Plant Physiology. 

David Domozych, professor emeritus of biology, published “Managing Pectin: Maintenance of Cell Wall Integrity in the Streptophyte Alga Penium margaritaceum” in Annals of Botany. Co-authors include Lily Kozel, Microscopy Imaging Center manager; Skidmore students Stuart Malone '26, Kaylee Bagdan '24, Ashley Buick '25, and Benjamin Gibeau '25.

Kim Frederick, Charles Lubin Family Chair for Women in Science and professor of chemistry, published “Development of a Microfluidic Paper Analytical Device for the Measurement of Iodide in Briny Wastewater” in Analytical Methods with Mary Harbison ’26, Jessica Gaetgens ’22, Suzanne Zeff ’20, and Ahmed Ismail ’18. Frederick also received a $399,684 National Science Foundation award for a collaborative project focused on scaling networked course-based undergraduate research experiences. 

Kieron Dwayne Sargeant, assistant professor of dance, published the book chapter “Flick the Skirt: The Amplification of the African Caribbean Body” in “The African Diaspora and Civic Responsibility: Perspectives on Addressing Injustice Through the Arts, Education and Community Engagement.”
