Make Jazz Trill Again
Trill 101 marked a new chapter for Zankel as its first original artistic project curated and
produced by the center. Over a year, Melanie Charles and her Make Jazz Trill Again
collective worked with Skidmore students and faculty through residencies, workshops,
jam sessions, and recordings to develop a multidisciplinary performance. The world
premiere blended original music, Afro-diasporic rhythms, Black spirituals, dance,
and multimedia storytelling, while exploring access, equity, mentorship, education,
and technology in the arts. The project positioned Zankel as a creative incubator
