English Major's Checklist

FOR THOSE WHO ENTERED SKIDMORE prior TO FALL 2020

Major Requirements

1.  Introductory Requirement

a. ______ EN 110: Introduction to Literary Studies. This course satisfies the college Writing Requirement.

*Prospective English majors are strongly encouraged to take EN 110 prior to enrolling in 200-level courses.

b. ______ One class from Forms of Language and Literature (210, 211, 213, 215, 217, 219, 222W, 228, 245, 251, 280, 281, 282) 

c. ______ One class from Language and Literature in Context (221, 223, 224, 225, 226, 227, 229, 230, 235, 238, 239, 242, 244, 246)

2. ______ Five classes from Advanced Courses in Language and Literature (311, 312, 313, 314, 315, 316, 322, 323, 324, 325, 327, 337, 338, 341, 342, 343, 344, 345, 346, 347, 348, 350, 351, 352, 359, 360, 361, 362, 363, 364, 371, 377, 378, 379, 380 [only one of the five can be 377, 378, 379, or 380])

*Prerequisites: Before taking 300-level classes, students must fulfill requirements a, b, and c above.

3. ______ One Capstone Experience, satisfied in most cases by a Senior Seminar. Students with appropriate preparation and faculty permission may instead choose the senior thesis or project options. Capstone options are restricted to senior English majors.

4. ______ One additional course at the 200 or 300 level (excluding the Senior Seminars)

5. Early Period requirement: Two courses, at either the 200 or the 300 level, must be designated "early period" (EN 225, 228E, 229E, 230, 231, 315, 341, 342, 343, 344, 345, 346, 347, 348, 350, 362).

Total courses: 10 courses

Total credit hours: 32–34 (one 200-level Forms course at 3 or 4 hours; one additional course at 3 or 4 hours)
