Pre-Health And Skidmore

Creative Thought Matters — At Skidmore, pre-health students thrive in a liberal arts environment where scientific rigor is enriched by creative, interdisciplinary thinking — empowering them to approach health and medicine with empathy, innovation, and a broad humanistic perspective. Here, the sciences are fully integrated into a dynamic academic community that values creativity, discovery, collaboration, and real-world application, allowing students to major in any discipline while thoughtfully preparing for careers in the health professions.

Here to Support Pre-Health Students and Alumni

The Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) is dedicated to identifying, guiding, advising, and supporting students and alumni as they prepare to pursue careers in the health professions. HPAC provides personalized advising to help them:

  • Explore health career options aligned with their passions and strengths,
  • Thoughtfully choose and sequence prerequisite coursework,
  • Engage in meaningful co-curricular experiences — such as shadowing, internships, research, work, clubs or athletics, leadership, and service — to foster professional and personal growth and contribute to a compelling, authentic application,
  • Develop a personalized application timeline and plan,
  • Navigate challenges, adapt goals, and revise strategies as needed,
  • Prepare for standardized exams, and
  • Craft strong application materials and prepare for interviews.

From your first year at Skidmore thorugh the application process, whether as a student or alumni, HPAC is here to help you become the kind of health professional you aspire to be and the world needs: thoughtful, caring, creative, dedicated, and well-prepared.
