College to welcome returning alumni

Alumni from the Philippines, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Italy will be among those returning to Skidmore College this weekend for Alumni Reunion, scheduled Thursday, May 31, to Sunday, June 3.

Skidmore will welcome more than 1,000 alumni and their guests for the event, where graduates whose class years end in 2 or 7 will be the guests of honor. 

Nine members of the Class of 1947 are expected to attend their 65 th reunion while 146 members of the Class of 2007 are registered for their fifth reunion. The Class of 1962, celebrating its 50 th reunion, is expecting 85 members to attend. Among the items on the agenda for the golden anniversary celebrants is a cruise on Lake George.

The weekend's schedule includes a number of special events designed to help alumni reconnect with the college and learn about new developments on campus. Highlights include the following:

  • 18th Annual Reunion Art Exhibition Opening Reception, 5:30 p.m. June 1, Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery.
  • Alumni award recognition ceremony and class gift presentation, 10:30 a.m. June 2 at the Arthur Zankel Music Center. The award ceremony will also be live streamed, click here to visit the site during or after the ceremony to view the coverage.

  • "The Facts Behind the Fiction: A Discussion About Documentary Filmmaking" 3 p.m. June 2, Gannett Auditorium. Scott Hamilton Kennedy, a 1987 graduate and recipient of this year's Distinguished Achievement Award from the Alumni Association, will talk and share his work. Kennedy, an Academy Award nominee for his film The Garden, will share clips from his latest film, Fame High. 
  • "Skidmore Admits Men! Panel Discussion from the Front Lines," 3 p.m. June 2, Davis Auditorium. Some of the College's earliest male students share their stories. 

Additional events will include class receptions and dinners, the annual picnic on Case Green, tours of Saratoga Springs, and a dance on Saturday night. Says Mike Sposili, director of alumni affairs and college events, "We're looking forward to welcoming so many returning alumni and their guests. Reunion is a wondering opportunity for returning alumni to reconnect with each other and with Skidmore."
