New York Six symposium set for April 1 at Union

Service learning, community engagement, sustainability, and the Upstate economy will be the four areas of focus at a free one-day Upstate New York Symposium to be hosted by the New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium at Union College on Monday, April 1.

The Symposium is open to all interested faculty and staff at the consortium’s six member institutions: Skidmore College, Colgate University, Hamilton College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, St. Lawrence University, and Union.

Participants will have the opportunity to share best practices and challenges and to identify opportunities for collaboration with colleagues at other New York Six schools.

Following is the tentative program:

10:00 – Registration/coffee

10:30 – Welcome/introductions

10:45 – Keynote address, Q&A (speaker TBA)

12:00 – Working lunch/Breakout #1: Best practices and challenges

    • New York Six and the Upstate Economy

1:30 – Breakout #2: Opportunities for collaboration (same groups)

3:00 – Closing session

    • What have we learned today?
    • Action items
