Shana Kleiner
Shana Kleiner is a Social Work major from New Jersey. Shana’s experience with Restorative
Justice work is seen in two different facets of Skidmore College. First, she is one
of the founders of RestoreMore, Skidmore’s first Restorative Justice club. RestoreMore’s
goal is “inclusive community, supported discomfort”, a tagline that speaks to the
ideas of the club, to promote conversation, sharing and community through restorative
practices. This year the club has come together to discuss diversity and inclusion,
socio-economic status, cultural appropriation and gun violence; Shana facilitates
these bi-monthly meetings.
Shana is also the peer mentor for David Karp’s Restorative Justice based Scribner
Seminar called "We Can Work It Out". The seminar is about conflict resolution based
around principles of restorative justice. In the seminar students are exposed and
learn how to facilitate dialogues based around community issues. The goal of the seminar
is to create a space for positive dialogue and build community.
Next semester, Shana will be studying abroad in Durban, South Africa.
