Kelly Tran '20

Kelly Tran '20My name is Kelly Tran and I am a junior from the Bronx in New York City! I am a Sociology major with a double minor in Education Studies and Intergroup Relations (IGR). One of the most important parts of my academic and personal journeys has been my involvement with IGR. Since the Spring of 2017, I have been training to become a peer facilitator for a semester-long dialogue.

This semester, I will be a co-facilitator for the People of Color/White People dialogue, a unique 2 credit course, where students explore racial identity, conflict, community and social justice. My passions lie within educational policy reform, specifically in regards to underserved and underrepresented communities. The IGR program has allowed me to center my own experiences and voice in academia. Moving forward, I want to provide access to brave spaces, such as the Intergroup Relations Program, for students to feel seen and be heard in institutions not historically created for them.

Additionally, I am a Research Assistant for Professor Mueller and Professor Emeka. I am a Sociology and Open Peer Academic Coach, providing students resources and guidance to support their learning outside of the classroom. I am also a student representative for the Discovery Tour planning committee, a Student Events Assistant, and I work at the Information Desk in Case Center.
