Certification
Upon successful completion of required coursework and field placements, Education
Studies majors can be recommended for initial teaching certification (Childhood, Grades
1-6) in New York State. Graduates may choose to apply for certification by completing
additional requirements including two tests: Educating All Students (EAS) and Content
Specialty Test (CST). Information about applying for certification and these tests can be found on these links. NYS has recently released new study materials for students
preparing to take the CST. These are available here.
The Education Studies Department at Skidmore had 14 completers in 2019, 6 in 2020
and 10 in 2021. Of these three cohorts, 19 students elected to take edTPA portfolio
assessment, which is one of the New York State Certification exams. 18 students earned
passing scores on the edTPA portfolio assessment.
