Degrees of Gray: The Ethics of Global Warming

This year panelists and audience members are asked, what is the ethical response to global warming? Can everyone be an activist? Should we change our lifestyle? How much? Come and weigh in on the subject, and listen to what others have to say.

The Exec Co planned a field trip to NYC to see the Broadway play Spamalot. However, the show was cancelled due to the strike by the Theater Writer’s Guild. The tudents visited the Met and conducted a scavenger hunt around NYC instead.

Incoming HF students took a Hudson River Boat Cruise that included lunch and information on the history of commerce on the Hudson River.

& 3rd Annual Jon Ramsey Lecture
Professor Timothy Burns (of the Government department) will give this year's annual Ramsey Lecture. His talk is titled: "Honor, Cynicism and Liberal Education."

March 23, 2007 : Discussion with Anthony Holland

Students join professor Anthony Holland in discussing his picks for the next Skidmore College Orchestra concert. The concert, being held Wednesday April 11 at 8:00pm in Filene Recital Hall features a special guest solo cellist Hai-Ye Ni, and such musical numbers as "Finlandia" and Peer Gynt, made famous in cartoon soundtracks.

Academic Festival offers Skidmore students an opportunity to display their most distinguished work. We invite participants from all departments, programs, and disciplines — especially seniors with capstone projects. We welcome presentations in various formats: papers, posters, panels, exhibitions, and performances.
Our theme this year is Celebrating Excellence. In keeping with this theme, we seek proposals that showcase the rigor and excitement that students have achieved in their studies.

April 23, 2007: Who Killed the Electric Car? & Discussion Panel

Erin Anderson '09 organized a discussion panel around the movie Who Killed the Electric Car? and oversaw a discussion panel featuring Skidmore faculty: Bod Turner, Rik Scarce and Karen Kellogg and an expert featured in the film, Chelsea Sexton, which the Honors Forum helped bring to campus.

Rob Campbell '10 and Dani Crickman '10 facilitated three movie showings in the SPA related to Environmental issues. After each movie they provided viewers with information and activities they could do to help the environment. The movies they showed were: Thirst, Academy Award winning An Inconvenient Truth, and the classic childhood favorite Fern Gully.

Erin Cassidy '09 shared her passion of watching Japanese "trendy dramas" with interested members of the Skidmore community. The topics she covered included: Japanese popular music artists and their roles in J-Drama and the rising popularity of the "otaku," or avid fan, subculture in J-Drama.
April 9, 2007: Catholicism: Myths and Truths

Erin Frymire '09 organized a panel discussion for the Skidmore community about the rumors and facts surrounding the religion of Catholicism.
Erin assembled students, lay parish leaders, the Coordinator of Catholic Student Life on campus and a member of the Catholic clergy to sit on her panel.

Saratoga Springs Public Library
Dawn Harfmann '10 facilitated three group discussions aimed at seniors and young people interested in learning about the history of Saratoga Springs.In order to create a more informed atmosphere, Dawn prepared herself by researching various topics related to the history of the city.
March 31, 2007: Soap Carving Activity and Fiesta
12:00pm-4:00pm, Saratoga Springs Public Library
In conjunction with the Saratoga Reads! reading of Becoming Naomi Leon, Emma Newcombe '10 and Zoe Soens '10 organized a soap carving even for elementary school children. They also incorporated Mexican-style snacks and other activities into their hands-on interaction with the book.
