Faculty Recommendation Form

The faculty charge to Honors Council is to administer a program for under ten percent of the student population (of roughly 180-200 members) with a GPA that places them in the top ranking of all Skidmore students. Honors Forum membership is not an entitlement for students, even those with the qualifying GPA. Membership selection is competitive. Therefore, we ask faculty members to help us discern the students who they believe will play a significant role in enhancing the academic life at Skidmore. A full recommendation with specifics or even anecdotes about the student is more helpful to the Honors Council than a brief response of only a few sentences. Who reads faculty recommendations? Members of the Honors Council, which include faculty members and students from the Executive Committee, review Honors Forum applications and therefore read faculty recommendations.  If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to contact the Honors Forum director.

In the space below, please comment on the student's qualifications for admissions to the Honors Forum. Please consider specific course work, high academic achievement (Dean's List is an essential criterion), potential for active participation in the classroom, and leadership potential. A full recommendation with specifics or even anecdotes about the student's academic achievements or leadership potential is more helpful to the Honors Council than a brief response of only a few sentences. In making our decisions, the Council will also consider the balance among different disciplines represented among the membership.
Please rate the student (5 stars=highest; 1 star=lowest) in the following areas:
Academic Achievement (excellence of work, achievement level relative to peers, zeal for learning)
Classroom Participation (prompt submssion of course work, class attendance, participation in discussions, peer and collaborative skills)
Leadership Potential (communication skills, classroom engagement, interest in Skidmore and the larger community)
Overall Recommendation (your assessment of the student's ability to contribute to the intellectual and academic life of the Skidmore community)
