First-year housing selection will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9 and conclude at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11.

Selection is entirely optional and only applies to students who are choosing roommates or have been approved for Special Interest Housing. 

Students who have not been approved for Special Interest Housing and are not part of a roommate group will be assigned housing based on availability to a double or triple room per the preferences indicated in their housing application. 

Final room assignments and roommate information will be available in the housing portal by Monday, August 15.  

Selection times for all students will be viewable in the housing portal no later than Aug. 2. They are based on Eastern Standard Time.  

All students will be assigned a randomized selection time slot; however, selection time is only pertinent if you have a two- or three-person roommate group or if you have been approved for Special Interest Housing. All other students will be automatically assigned based on responses indicated in your housing questionnaire. 

Yes. You can be randomly assigned and opt to not participate in the selection process.

There will be different selection/assignment times. But keep in mind that our first-year rooms are very similar. While a group may select first based on their time slot, this is simply to ensure those that want to know their roommates can have the best chance at living together. The rooms themselves, however, will be largely the same.

Students who have been approved for Special Interest Housing will select on Tuesday, Aug. 9. When accessing the housing portal, students will be able to view available spaces in the community/communities for which they have been approved. If space is not available in the community, you can proceed to select from other available rooms. 

Log into the housing portal and click the Application Status tab to view the community/communities for which you have been approved. 

Note: Approval does not guarantee a space in the community. 

A student may select a housing assignment any time between the start of their time slot and 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11.

It is randomized. Your time is not tied in any way to your status, application, acceptance, etc. That said, students who have applied and been approved for Special Interest Housing will be assigned time slots for Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Each individual student will receive an individual selection time slot.

The housing portal is set up so that any member of a roommate group can select on behalf of all group members during that individual’s assigned time slot. 

Groups of two will have the opportunity to select a vacant double room (if available), or a triple room with at least two vacancies. In this case, the third space in the triple would be available for a single student to be assigned.

Groups of three will have the opportunity to select available vacant triple rooms.  

Generally, if you are not in a group, you will be automatically assigned a room and roommate(s) based on the answers in your housing questionnaire. The exception is Special Interest Housing. If you have been approved for Special Interest Housing, and are not in a group, you will be able to select an individual open space in a double or triple-occupancy room.

You will need to rearrange. You may leave a roommate group or create a new roommate group at any time throughout the selection window. If there are no spaces remaining to accommodate a group, students will be automatically assigned.

If you are selecting for approved Special Interest Housing and not in a roommate group, Residential Life will assign you asspace is available. If you are opting to be assigned, you don't need to be available during the selection window. 

Yes and no. Your roommate(s) will be fellow first-year students. You will likely share a floor, bathroom, or suite with older students. This is a great opportunity for you to make connections with the campus community and have an experienced neighbor to rely on. In turn, your first-year seminar and other first-year programming will create ample opportunities to bond with other first-year students.

If you are participating in selection, your assignment is final once you select. In addition, all student assignments and roommate information will be available in the housing portal by Monday, Aug. 15.

Keep in mind that there are no "good" or "bad" residence halls and Skidmore is a small campus. The difference between the location of one or another will be as minimal as the angle of your sunset and the items available in each room (e.g. furniture) are all very similar. 

There’s nothing you need to do right now. London students will receive information in November about housing for the spring and the steps will be unique to you.
