We expect the 2027 application to be available in november.
Institute Dates: June 20 – July 17, 2027
Eligibility: The program is designed for college-age students at least 18 years of age and adults. The applicant pool varies from year-to-year, but typically undergraduates and graduate students make up at least 60% of our population. At this time, enrollment in summer courses and institutes is not open to non-matriculated international students.
Application Review and Deadlines: Scholarship Applicants must submit the required materials with their program application and writing samples by the deadline of March 14, 2027. Scholarship Applicants will be notified of their acceptance and financial assistance the first week in April.
Applicants not requiring financial assistance will be accepted on a rolling basis. All applicants are encouraged to apply early as sections close out; a waiting list for entrance to the program will be established and maintained.
Applicants will be required to submit:
- A $60 (non-refundable) application fee.
- A brief letter indicating which genre you are applying for (Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction or Poetry) and your relevant background (degrees, previous workshop experience, publications, work experience, etc.).
- A writing sample of 7-20 pages of your best writing if you are applying for Fiction or Creative Non-Fiction or 2-3 poems if you are applying for Poetry.
- A copy of your current transcript if you are a non-matriculated student applying for credit.
FORMATTING WRITING SAMPLES:
- The file name must have your full name and description (JohnSmithwritingstatement.pdf)
- Your full name must be on the first page of the document.
- The document must be 12 pt. type, have one-inch margins, include page numbers and prose must be double-spaced.
- Accepted document types: .DOC, .DOCX, PDF, .TXT
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please make sure you have your documents ready and in the correct format prior to starting the online application process. Once you start your application, you will need to complete it in its entirety. The system will not allow you to make changes once the application has been submitted. If you close the browser, you will lose all of your information. The application will time out after 20 minutes.
This was one of the best workshop experiences I've ever had! The instructors were all so thoughtful in their feedback while facilitating a workshop that strove to seek out the author's intentions for the story and bring those out as best one could. I received so much valuable feedback, and I left feeling excited to get to work on my manuscript.
