About Religious Studies

One simply cannot understand our pluralistic and increasingly interconnected world without knowledge of the various religious traditions that inform cultural identities and distinctive outlooks on life. Our students investigate how religions shape and are shaped by human cultures from multiple perspectives, including the history of religion, philosophy of religion, feminism and gender studies, postmodernism, and cultural studies. They engage questions at the heart of the human effort to understand and represent the self, society, the world, and transcendent reality. As a religious studies major in a liberal arts context, you will be equipped to enter fields such as education, law, diplomatic service, human services, journalism, and business and development.
