End-of-semester musical offerings abound

Guitar Ensemble in concert

Skidmore’s Department of Music will celebrate a semester of hard work with an array of student concerts scheduled through Dec. 8 in Arthur Zankel Music Center, Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall. Details are as follows:

Skidmore Big Band, Monday, Nov. 25, 8 p.m.

The Skidmore Big Band is directed by Mark Vinci and offers students the opportunity to perform in a large jazz group. This is an auditioned group, which includes as many as 25 members.

Skidmore String Ensembles, Monday, Dec. 2, 8 p.m.

Coached by Michael Emery, the Skidmore String Ensembles feature talented string students who will present selections from classic string music literature in their upcoming performance.

Skidmore Guitar Ensemble, Thursday, Dec. 5, 8 p.m.

The Skidmore Guitar Ensemble is an auditioned ensemble devoted to the performance of classical guitar music in combination with other instruments and voice. Brett Grigsby coaches the Guitar Ensemble.

Skidmore Small Jazz Ensembles, Saturday, Dec. 7,  4 p.m. & 7 p.m.

Under the coaching of Artists-in-Residence John Nazarenko, Mark Vinci, and George Muscatello, the student ensembles perform on and off campus for various events, including shows at Caffè Lena, Falstaff's and locations around town. Repertoire is largely decided by the students and includes jazz, Latin, funk, and rock-based music.

Skidmore Wind Ensembles, Sunday, Dec. 8, 3 p.m.

Coached by Jan Vinci, senior artist-in-residence, the Skidmore Wind Ensembles offer students the opportunity to explore chamber ensemble repertoire.

Admission for the student presentations is free and open to the public. For advance reservations or information, please click here or call the Zankel box office (518) 580-5321. The Zankel Music Center is wheelchair accessible and offers listening devices for the hearing impaired.
