The student analysis will address some of the most important questions about the 2013
election: How has the political landscape of Saratoga Springs changed who votes in
local elections? What were the most important issues to voter, and how effective were
the mayoral campaigns? The presentation will include maps of Saratoga Springs showing
the location of red and blue election districts. A question-and-answer session will
follow the presentation.
The students are enrolled in a first-year seminar titled "Real Democracy," taught
by Bob Turner, associate professor of government. They conducted a scientific survey
of 227 voters by telephone from November 5 to 15, 2013. The seminar students also
campaigned with candidates and attended City Council meetings, candidate debates,
and public forums on casino gambling.
