Zachary Wood will engage the Skidmore community in small group discussions about his book “Uncensored: My Life and Uncomfortable Conversations at the Intersection of Black and White America” and broader questions about free speech during the day. In the evening he will deliver a talk. Books will be available for signing.
Wood was a former Robert L. Bartley Fellow at The Wall Street Journal. He graduated from Williams College in 2018 with a degree in political science and currently works as assistant opinion editor of The Guardian. He is known for his dynamic perspective on free speech, race and dissenting opinions. Wood entered the national spotlight while a senior at Williams College, where he acted as president of the student group Uncomfortable Learning. Wood strengthened the group’s commitment to inviting speakers with controversial perspectives to speak freely on the college’s campus. Wood is an activist for free speech and a firm believer that civil debate is a crucial part of an education. He recently testified before the U.S. Senate on the necessity of ensuring that college campuses allow for a variety of viewpoints.
