Skidmore to Maintain Full Operations
Skidmore College will maintain full operations today in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, now classified as a tropical storm.
The College lost power late yesterday afternoon, but its generator kicked in immediately and maintained full power to virtually the entire campus. Normal power returned around 10:30 p.m., but the College stayed on the generator so as to avoid the possibility of switching back and forth through the night. The College will convert back to regular power this morning.
According to the Albany Times-Union, about 5,000 residents of Saratoga Springs lost power and may still be without it. Flooding was not a problem as the area received only about a tenth of an inch of rain.
Human Resources reminds faculty and staff to consult the College's Inclement Weather Policy if, as a result of the storm, they require an alternate work schedule today.
The storm caused extensive damage in New Jersey and the New York metropolitan region, and some students have informed Student Affairs that they are returning home to be with their families.
The Office of Alumni Affairs has asked alumni, parents and friends to use the College’s Facebook page to keep the Skidmore community posted on how they have been affected by the storm, sharing photographs and experiences. Click here.
