Mounties

Below, safety officers Dick Pelzer and Debbie D’Angelo, aboard Kodiak and Killian, watch over Skidmore’s campus. These certified mounted patrol teams, along with Harry Ruecker and Rainbow, now serve at major college events such as Opening Convocation. Like the bicycle patrols started last year, the mounted teams are part of Campus Safety’s recent emphasis on community relations and outreach. Besides, says Dennis Conway, campus safety director: “Having a mounted patrol is a natural extension for a college that fields one of the nation’s top riding programs and uses ‘Thoroughbreds’ as the nickname of its sports teams.”
