Acceleration Information

Students interested in completing their degree requirements early may apply to the Registrar's Office if they:

  • are in good academic standing (2.0 or better)
  • submit the application prior to the anticipated graduation date
  • plan a program which includes all courses needed for all-college curricula and
    major areas of study

Once you have outlined your degree completion plan on the Acceleration Plan form, you should review the application with your faculty advisor. Check off all college requirements completed and list the major courses completed. Enter all the courses you plan to take during your remaining time at Skidmore. If exact courses are not known, you may use the term "elective".

When you have written approval and comments from the appropriate members of the faculty, please return your completed form to the Office of the Registrar:

Your application will be reviewed by the Registrar's Office and you will be notified of the decision.

Overloads: remember that your acceleration plan cannot include an "overload" (above 18 semester hours) in any fall or spring semester unless you have a 3.0 or better cumulative average and have the approval of the Committee on Academic Standing. The acceptable course load in a single summer session is 2 courses for a maximum of 8 semester hours.

Approval of this application does not guarantee accelerated graduation. If you do not enroll in one or more of the courses listed on your Acceleration Plan, or if your cumulative or major average is less than 2.0 by the time of your anticipated graduation, you will need to adjust your schedule and may be reclassified to a later graduation date.
