CIS Geothermal drilling project begins May 16

Members of the Skidmore community,

On May 16, 2016, the Palamountain parking lot and adjacent lots will be closed to allow Facilities Services to begin the installation of geothermal wells for the future Center for Integrated Sciences. Access to buildings in this area will be rerouted with appropriate signage. Unfortunately, construction this summer is expected to have a significant impact for those participating in academic and other programs in Palamountain, Bolton, Tisch Learning Center and Dana Science Center.

The work will include blasting and removal of rock, drilling approximately 240 wells nearly 500 feet into the ground, filling, regrading, paving and other construction activities.

We expect that construction will still be in progress at the beginning of fall 2016. However, disruption will be minimal if all goes according to plan and the weather cooperates, as we will have completed the area immediately adjacent to Palamountain, Bolton, Tisch and Dana, and work will be focused in the area to the north of the Palamountain parking lot closer to the perimeter road. The work will be substantially completed by late fall.

Over the course of the project we will provide updates on schedule, status and potential interruptions on the Facilities website. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Facilities Services.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding regarding this very important geothermal well project, which when fully implemented will greatly enhance our sustainability efforts and help us meet several of the goals articulated in the Campus Sustainability Plan.
