MU106 Great Composers
Sixties British Songwriters
The 1960s saw a rediscovery and flourishing of the British popular song tradition.
British songwriters discovered artistic voices related to but different from American
pop music. By the end of the decade, others would imitate the British. This course
traces the development of British popular songwriting through selected examples, a broad analysis of the musical and textual materials, and introductions to some of
the most successful individuals in this milieu.
