The New York State Military Museum's archives houses 10,000 artifacts relating to New York State military forces. The artifacts contain the largest collection of state batte flags in the country, the largest collection of Civil War flags in the world, and Colonel Elmer Ellsworth's uniform.
The museum also contains a research center open to the public.
