Faculty-Staff Achievements
Cerri Banks, dean of students and vice president for student affairs, will deliver the 2019 convocation
address at Syracuse University’s School of Education convocation ceremony on May 11.
Banks is an alumna of the school. 
Yelena Biberman, assistant professor of political science, co-authored a policy opinion piece with
political science major Jared Schwartz. The article, “Pakistan is Ready for Stability
in Afghanistan,” was published by East Asia Forum, based out of Australian National University. 
Gail Cummings-Danson, athletics director, was featured in a Spectrum News segment about changing the conversation
about women’s sports. She spoke about seeing a positive shift in the amount of respect
and attention women’s sports receive.
Christopher Mann, assistant professor of political science, co-authored an article using data from
his Election Research class. The article, “Waiting to Vote in the 2016 Presidential
Election: Evidence from a Multi-county Study,” appears in Political Research Quarterly and was the result of a multi-campus project observing polling places in 2016.
Daniel Nathan, professor of American studies, was quoted in an article about the 100th anniversary
of the Black Sox gambling scandal. The article, “The Greatest Gambling Scandal in
American History Turns 100,” appeared on GamblingCompliance.com.
Jeffrey Segrave, David H. Porter professor of health and human physiological sciences, published
an article entitled “The Literature of Tennis” in Routledge Handbook of Tennis: History,
Culture and Politics (286-295).
Update:
Heather Hurst, associate professor of anthropology, appeared in the National Geographic channel series “Lost Treasures of the Maya” in episode three, “Secrets of the Sun
God,” which originally aired March 18. Her work at the Maya site of San Bartolo was
featured.
