Faculty-Staff Achievements
Nurcan Atalan-Helicke, associate professor of environmental studies and sciences, helped secure a three-year subaward for the Skidmore Environmental Studies and Sciences Program as part of a National Science Foundation Improving Undergraduate STEM Education award to the University of Northern Colorado for their study “Developing a Next Generation Concept Inventory to Help Environmental Programs Evaluate Student Knowledge of Complex Food-Energy-Water Systems.”
Atalan-Helicke also delivered a talk on “The COVID-19 Crisis: An Ecological Perspective” remotely to graduate students in the political science faculty of Erbakan University in Konya, Turkey, on April 28.
Jeremy Day-O’Connell, associate professor of music, published an invited commentary, “Joint Speech: A Musical Perspective (or, In Praise of Singing),” in the journal Music Perception.
Sarah Day-O’Connell, associate professor of music, wrote a blog post, “In Light of Cancelled Creation, Haydn at Home,” that was published on the Cambridge University Press’ "Cambridge Reflections: COVID19" blog.
Andrew Lindner ’03, associate professor of sociology, and Tongtian Xiao ’18 published an article, “Subverting Surveillance or Accessing the Dark Web? Interest in the Tor Anonymity Network in U.S. States, 2006–2015,” in Social Currents.
Aarathi Prasad, assistant professor of computer science, was recently interviewed regarding her research on privacy and contact tracing. She appeared on WAMC, WNYT-NewsChannel13 and News10 ABC and was quoted in The New York Times, among other outlets.
