Skidmore Spotlight: Tory Atkins

April 21, 2021

Tory Atkins, assistant director of leadership activities, advises student groups and supports more than 100 clubs on campus. This year, she has helped Skidmore clubs organize virtual and in-person events that could be held safely during COVID-19.

Atkins, who started at Skidmore in October 2015, provides support to the Student Government Association (SGA) Class Councils, which are responsible for organizing traditional events such as Junior Ring Weekend, Winter Carnival, Spring Fling and Senior Week. She works closely with Chillmorethe Student Entertainment Committee and the SGA Club Affairs Committee. She also conducts leadership training, offers logistical planning assistance and manages the SkidSync event platform.

“COVID-19 has changed my job in a lot of ways. It has been really interesting working with clubs to shift events that would normally be in person to a virtual format,” she said. “I’ve also been pretty involved in creating the COVID-19 regulations for clubs, so that they’ve been able to hold some safe, in-person events throughout the year. “

Atkins considers herself “lucky” to be part of the Campus Life and Engagement team and enjoys working with student leaders.

“I truly value all of the folks that I work with. I’ve felt so supported by everyone through all of the challenges we’ve faced this year,” she said. “The student leaders I work with are incredibly passionate about their clubs, and it’s a pleasure to see those passions shared with the rest of the Skidmore community through the events they plan.”

When she is not on campus, Atkins can be found walking her dog, Bingley, all over Saratoga Springs. She is also an avid reader and enjoys spending time with family. She looks forward to the return of live music when conditions allow.
