Faculty-Staff Achievements
Nurcan Atalan-Helicke, associate professor and director of the Environmental Studies and Sciences Program,
and A.J. Schneller, assistant professor of environmental studies and sciences, published a book chapter
with alumni Clarivel Gonzalez ’16, Carolyn Lois ’16 and Helen Mebrate ’16. Their chapter,
“Seed Libraries in the United States: Regulations, Seed Saving, Seed Sharing, and
Seed Sovereignty,” appeared in the volume “Administering and Managing the U.S. Food System: Revisiting Food Policy and Politics,” published by Lexington Books.
Emmanuel Balogun, assistant professor of political science, published “African Agency in Practice: Acquiring Agency and Institutional Change in the West African Health Organisation” in the journal Africa Spectrum.
Jason Breves, associate professor and chair of the Department of Biology, Nasatasia Nelson '20, Victor Koltenyuk '20, and collaborators at the University of Hawaii co-authored an article, “Enhanced expression of ncc1 and clc2c in the kidney and urinary bladder accompanies freshwater acclimation in Mozambique tilapia” in the journal Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology – Part A.
Rebecca McNamara, associate curator at the Tang Teaching Museum, published “Embracing Contradictions,” a book review of “In Flux: American Jewelry and the Counterculture” by Susan Cummins, Damian Skinner and Cindi Strauss, for Metalsmith magazine.
Kelly Melekis, associate professor of social work, published "Engaging Future Healthcare Professionals as Caregivers to Hospice Patients in Comfort
Care Homes' in OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying. The article was co-authored by the New York
Six Liberal Arts Consortium colleague Carol S. Weisse, director of health professions
and professor of psychology at Union College and recent Skidmore graduate, Emma Phillips
'21.
