Skidmore Spotlight: Laura Decker

August 25, 2021

Laura Decker is the Early Childhood Center coordinator and academic administrative assistant for the Education Studies Department.

Decker, who started at Skidmore in 2019, said she enjoys working with the young children in the Early Childhood Center and getting to know the families in the community. She also enjoys supporting faculty and learning more about the Education Studies Department.

“I have found Skidmore to be a welcoming, kind, and supportive environment,” she said.

As a result of the pandemic, Decker spent more time in the center’s classrooms last academic year. She helped the head teacher, worked with the children, and helped to clean and sanitize the rooms. She also assisted with health screenings of the children.

Decker, who worked on campus last year, said that she looks forward to “a greater sense of normalcy” on campus this fall.

“Outside of the ECC classrooms, it was so quiet here last year, so I am looking forward to a feeling of togetherness with the return to campus,” she said.

When she is not at work, Decker enjoys spending time with family, exploring the local area, traveling, cooking, and staying active.
