Yelena Biberman-Ocakli, associate professor of political science, published (with Maj. Alex Deep) “The Proxy Gambit” on the Modern War Institute at West Point website.  

Jenny Day

Jenny Huangfu Day, associate professor of history, published "The War of Textbooks: Educating Children during the Second Sino-Japanese War, 1937–1945" in the journal Twentieth-Century China. 

Jordana DymJordana Dym, professor of history and director of Latin American and Latinx Studies Program, gave an invited lecture for the IV Congreso Centroamericano de Historia on April 22. Her presentation focused on the strengths and weaknesses of a robust, inclusive but indirect electoral system in early 19th-century Central America.     

Giuseppe FaustiniGiuseppe Faustini, professor of Italian, delivered a paper, “Pirandello poeta,” for the Pirandello On Air webinar, sponsored by the Pirandello Society on April 30. Faustini also participated in a panel discussion. 

Chris Mann

Christopher Mann, assistant professor of political science, was interviewed by the Albany Times Union for an article about the impact of the census apportionment of congressional seats. 

Kelly MelekisKelly Melekis, associate professor and chair of the Department of Social Work, has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to teach and conduct research at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania, as part of a project on social work in a global context.  Her research will explore cultural variations in palliative and end-of-life care and end-of-life care education. 

Tammy C. Owens

Tammy C. Owens, assistant professor of American studies, published “Black Sites of Speculation: A Case for Theorizing Black Childhood as a Subject in Black Adult Narratives” in the volume “Children and Youth as Subjects, Objects, Agents: Innovative Approaches to Research Across Space and Time” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021).  

Pushi PrasadPushkala Prasad, professor of management and business, presented the paper “Whose Womb is This? Feminist Divisions Around Global Commercial Surrogacy” at the Southern Connecticut State University’s Women and Gender Studies Conference on April 23.
