Skidmore Spotlight: Shannon Rodriguez

June 16, 2021

Shannon Rodriguez, associate director for integrated sciences and health professions in the Career Development Center, helps students and alumni evaluate their abilities and interests, helps develop skills needed to conduct an effective job and internship search, and supports those considering graduate and professional school.

Rodriguez started at Skidmore as a temporary career counselor 10 years ago and became associate director for graduate and professional studies in 2012. In 2018, she assumed her current position, specializing in careers in the health and biomedical sciences.

She also manages the Peer Advisor Network, a network of Skidmore students who share insight from internships with those with similar interests, and sits on the Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC), supporting those applying to health professions programs.

“You can find me meeting with students individually, in small groups, in the classroom, or hosting large career-related events,” she said.

During the pandemic, Rodriguez helped bring CDC services online, developing creative new ways of supporting students and alumni, such as the Senior Success Series

Rodriguez said she appreciates working in an environment where she can watch students grow professionally and personally.

“In addition to the natural beauty of the campus, I am surrounded by people dedicated to creating a positive impact on our community through education and creating access to opportunities,” she said. “I like the idea that even one small act can lead to something bigger and create a meaningful difference in someone’s life.”

When she is not on campus, she enjoys gardening, kayaking, hiking, skiing, yoga, trying new foods and traveling.
