Aurelia Ball, assistant professor of chemistry, published a scientific paper with Juan Alcantara’21, Robyn Stix ’18, Katherine Huang ’23, Acadia Connor ’21, and Ray East ’23. “An Unbound Proline-Rich Signaling Peptide Frequently Samples Cis Conformations in Gaussian Accelerated Molecular Dynamics Simulations” was published in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences in November.
Paul Benzon, assistant professor of English, published a new book: “Archival Fictions: Materiality, Form, and Media History in Contemporary Literature” (University of Massachusetts Press: 2021). Drawing on approaches from media poetics, film studies, and the digital humanities, the interdisciplinary study demonstrates how authors who engage technology through form continue to imagine new roles for print literature across the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Joseph Cermatori, assistant professor of English, appeared on the podcast “Entitled Opinions” from Stanford University to discuss his recent book, “Baroque Modernity: An Aesthetics of Theater” (Johns Hopkins University Press: 2021).
Veena Chandra, private music instructor, was interviewed by The Daily Gazette alongside her son Devesh ahead of a Jan. 9 performance at The Linda.
Stephen Ives, associate professor of health and human physiological sciences, and Kim Frederick, professor of chemistry, co-authored a research paper published in the journal Nutrients,
titled “Capsaicin and Its Effect on Exercise Performance, Fatigue and Inflammation after Exercise.” Alexs Matias ’19, Jessica Gaetgens ’22, and collaborators at the University of Verona
in Italy also contributed to the project.
Vojtech Kejzlar, assistant professor of statistics, delivered an invited presentation, titled “Bayesian Calibration of Imperfect Computer Models: Beyond MCMC,” at the Information and Statistics in Nuclear Experiment and Theory (ISNET 8) conference
at Michigan State University in December.
Evan Mack, senior teaching professor of music, discussed We Are Instrumental, a volunteer-run organization that repairs and distributes instruments to school
districts in need, in an Adirondack Explorer news article.
Gina Occhiogrosso, instructor of art, is opening a new solo exhibition of her work at the Arts Center
of the Capital Region in Troy. Gina will present more than 25 paintings, three assemblages,
two accordion sketchbooks, and a video in the exhibition, titled “Surfacing,” which runs from Jan. 14 to March 11. Spanning the past five years, the show touches
upon the empowerment of the feminine in contemporary painting, the boundaries of craft
and fine art, the pandemic, job loss, and other themes. An opening reception will
take place during Troy Night Out, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28.
Julia Routbort, associate dean of student affairs for health and wellness, was quoted in The College Post about the importance of receiving a COVID-19 booster and about the strong turnout
for the on-campus booster clinic Skidmore held at the end of the fall semester.
Minita Sanghvi, associate professor of marketing, was sworn in as Saratoga Springs commissioner of
finance and was featured in several media pieces, including an article in The Saratogian and The Daily Gazette.
