This event is intended to be an in-person interview day, and employers expect that attendees will be able to attend the event. If circumstances come up in which a student can no longer attend the interview day, there is no guarantee an alternative interview will be scheduled. This decision is left to the interviewing employer.

This page is intended to assist students preparing to attend or participate in Skidmore Recruitment Day on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 12p.m. to 5p.m. at 1601 Broadway in New York City.
Preparing for the event:
Skidmore Recruitment Day will take place in New York City on Friday, February 28,
2020, from 12p.m. to 5p.m. The location for the event 1601 Broadway, 8th Floor, New
York City, NY 10019. Skidmore Recruitment Day is being held within the American Management Association Conference Center.
This event is for seniors ONLY. It is NOT a career fair, but rather a pre-select INTERVIEWING
DAY. This means students can NOT show up and expect to talk or network with companies.
Instead it means that an employer representative from the companies attending will
be selecting Skidmore students in advance and inviting them to participate in an interview.
Interviewing schedules will be pre-arranged. Students will be notified February 12,
if they've been selected to interview.
A Handshake event page was set up to keep students informed concerning employers attending, communication
and updates regarding the event. However, this page is intended for informational
purposes only. Only students with interview invitations will be attendees at Skidmore
Recruitment Day.
The application deadline for the 2020 Skidmore Recruitment Day is Monday, February 3, 2020 by 11:55PM. No late applications will be accepted.
No! The event page in Handshake was set up as a communication tool for event information. In order to attend the event, students will still need to apply to positions directly. ONLY students pre-selected for interviews will attend Skidmore Recruitment Day.
Last year we had 25 employers from varying industries attend this event. We anticipate having 30 employers this year. Many employers will be recruiting for multiples openings.

On the day of the event (February 28, 2020) students will begin to register at approximately 11:30a.m. There will be a student lounge area with light snacks and beverages available. There is a student lounge area for students to sit until it is time for their pre-scheduled interviews. A few minutes before a student's interview time, students will be called and directed to sit in a seat that coordinates with the company that will be interviewing them. Interviews will begin promptly at 12:45p.m.. Each interview will last no more then 30 minutes. There will be a brief 15 minute break from 2:45p.m. - 3p.m. Interviews will commence following the break and conclude at 5PM.
You can apply to as many jobs as you wish associated with Skidmore Recruitment Day.
The most interviews a student could potentially have is 8 job interviews. Students
will have opportunity to accept or decline any interview invitations from companies.
Yes, all positions will be posted in Handshake and students should apply to each position they are interested in. Some employers are also requiring students to apply externally. If you have questions please reach out to a member of the Career Development Center.
Students are able to begin applying on Monday, January 27 at 8a.m.
- Login to Handshake.
- Select Documents from the drop down under your name in the top menu bar.
- Select Add New Documents.
- Drag and Drop a Word or PDF from your computer.
- Click Add Document.
- Title your document and select from the drop down the Document Type.
By mid February, employers are expected to submit their applicant selections to the CDC team. Students will be able to begin registering for interview times on Wednesday, February 12. Candidates who are not selected for an interview will also be notified at that time.
Employers will make candidate selections in mid February. Once selections are received
by the CDC, interview times will be opened in Handshake for students to sign up for
a time. Students will be notified via email of their selection. The following status
are used within Handshake:
- "PRIMARY"
- "ALTERNATE"
- "PENDING"
- "DECLINED"
Students will have until Wednesday, February 19 at 11:55p.m. to select their interview time slot(s).
Interview slots will be given to students on a first come/first serve basis. Students
are encouraged to select their interview slots as soon as possible.
Students will have access to beverages, coffee, water and soda. Lunch will NOT be
provided so students should plan accordingly.
Yes, the floor at the event venue has multiple bathrooms available where students
can change into interview attire.
The CDC team is happy to help you prepare materials. Schedule an appointment with any Career Counselor. Please call us (518-580-5790), visit us in Starbuck, or log into your Handshake account to set up an appointment. You can also schedule phone/Skype appointments over Spring Break.
You can also drop-in at the Career Development Center (204 Starbuck Center) to meet with a Career coach. Coaches are available 11a.m. to 4p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Thursdays, drop-in hours are scheduled from 12p.m.- 4p.m.
E-Reviews of your career documents are available through the Career Corp. Email your resume and cover letter to: careercorps@skidmore.edu Typical response timeswithin 48 hours.
To prepare for Skidmore Recruitment Day, the CDC staff has set aside times where Skidmore Recruitment Day candidates can practice mock interview skills. Selected interview candidates will be notified of mock interview schedules the week of the event, and practice slots will be booked on a first come/first serve basis.
There will be FREE bus transportation available to students to and from the city. Bus Transporation
is being supported by OMNI Eye Services and Health Monitor Network.
Registration for the bus will open Wednesday, February 12 at 8a.m. Once registration opens there will be a transporation page created within Handshake for students to sign up. The bus registration page will ONLY be shared with those students who receive an interview invitation.
Bus seats will ONLY be available to students with interview invitations. In the event
a student has signed up for the bus, and does not receive an interview invitation,
that student's name will be removed from the bus sign-up list.
The bus will depart from Skidmore College Case Center at 7a.m. on February 28. Following the event, the bus will leave the American Management Association promptly at 5:30p.m. Students should arrive back to campus at approximately 10p.m.
Students are NOT required to take the bus.

Travel and lodging will be at your own expense.
A picture ID: student ID, drivers license or passport (may be needed upon entering the building)
A notebook or folder for taking notes and collecting business cards.
NOTE: Skidmore-branded, black leather padfolios are available at the CDC (Starbuck 204) at no charge. Please pick one up prior to February 28.
Extra copies of your resume. We may have open interview times available at the event, and you can submit a resume on the spot for consideration.

- Make sure you have created your Handshake Account and complete your profile.

- Ensure you have a resume and cover letter uploaded to your Handshake profile.

- THE DEADLINE TO APPLY TO JOBS IS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2020.
- You must apply to each individual position you are interested in for employers to give consideration.
- Employers will make their selections by February 11 and selected candidates will start
receiving notification of their application status on February 12.
Candidate Selection Process:
What can I expect following the application period?
- Students will be notified via an email from Handshake if they are selected for an interview. Be sure to check SPAM and Cluttered email folders on February 12, if you do not see an email in your inbox.
- Interview schedules will be pre-arranged prior to February 28.
- If students receive an email communication that they have been selected (labeled as a "PRIMARY" candidate for an interview, they must then go into Handshake to select an interview time slot. It is recommended students make their selections as soon as possible to receive their preferred time slots.
- If selected for an interview:
- Students will be notified of their status by Wednesday, February 12 at 4p.m.
- If you are selected as a “PRIMARY” candidate follow the steps in the "HOW TO SET UP AN INTERVIEW TIME SLOT" section below.
- The first interview slot will begin at 12:45p.m., with interview(s) lasting 30 minutes each. Eight interview slots are available throughout the afternoon. The day concludes at 5p.m.
- For all students who are chosen to attend the event, the interview schedules will be opened on Wednesday, February 12 at 4p.m. Students must go in and select the time slot that works best by Wednesday, February 19 at 11:55p.m.
NOTE: EARLY ACCESS will be given to students who are selected for 4+ interviews. This will occur Wednesday, February 12, from 8a.m. to 4p.m. This will allow those students the ability to schedule with multiple companies.
How to Set Up an Interview Time Slot
- Go to Handshake ->Jobs
- Select Applications in the menu bar across the top of your screen.
- On the left hand navigation, under STATUS you can check the box that is labeled "primary" to be taken to the next screen with job/internship(s) in which you are as a candidate to be interviewed.
- Click on the job you wish to set up the interview with.
- A message will appear - “If you apply and are selected to interview, you will see the interview schedule appear here!”
- Within the interview schedule under ACTION click the TAKE SLOT button next to the corresponding time that you wish to select.
Applicant Status in Handshake
- "primary" status = interview time slots open starting February 12 at 4p.m.
- "alternate" status = interview time slots open February 17 at 4p.m. for alternate
candidtates.
- "pending" status = you have not yet been selected for an interview.
- "declined" status = the company has chosen to move in a different direction.
NOTE: Your status will be updated for EACH application you submitted.
