    Matt Shrensel '09

After double majoring in Geosciences and Environmental Studies (Science track), Matt Shrensel (’09) graduated in the middle of a recession and seven months of job searching later, went on to work as a staff geologist performing site remediation at an environmental consulting firm in Pennsylvania. 5 years thereafter, he took a chance on moving out to Portland, Oregon, and got a job working with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

Now married with two small children, he works as a metrologist (not a meteorologist) with the Air Quality Monitoring group at Oregon DEQ. Working directly on instruments and systems that provide data directly to the public every hour, his work product is viewed by the public every day, and he has a front row seat to today’s most pressing environmental issues. His professional life has given him a lot of strong opinions on management, government, environmental policy, economics, and the elusive search for truth.
