Gap Year Programs with Post Grad Award Recipients

With so much uncertainty in the job market right now, taking a gap year or applying for one of Skidmore’s Post-Grad SEF Awards might be the perfect segue into starting your career. Please join us and meet our presenters who were able to pursue activities to improve themselves academically, professionally, and personally immediately upon graduating from Skidmore.

AmeriCorps, City Year
Benjamin was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and his college advisor in high school introduced him to Skidmore where he majored in Education Studies and Psychology. As much as Benjamin loved his Skidmore experience, when he graduated he was still unsure of what he’d like to pursue as a career. Benjamin knew he wanted to work in some sort of educational capacity, so he joined City Year to gain some school experience. After finishing City Year, he chose to continue his work with students from low-income backgrounds in disadvantaged communities. Benjamin then joined Bottom Line as a college access advisor in 2019.
News Reporting Intern, Mission Local Newspaper
Clara-Sophia Daly is a multimedia storyteller and reporter from the Bay Area. She has worked both in print and audio, and chose to do a post-graduation internship to gain more experience working as a news reporter. She is now writing for Mission Local, a small newspaper in San Francisco. She studied International Affairs and Media/Film studies, and enjoys working at the intersection of art and politics - where she can focus on the stories of individuals to reveal things like systematic injustice.
Media Intern, Story Center
Amanda Peckler is a multimedia editor and producer from New York, who graduated in 2020 with a self-determined major in Documentary Media Studies. She is passionate about crafting imaginative, justice-oriented stories across film, audio, and web-based platforms. Amanda saw the post-graduate award as a valuable way to gain a hands-on work and learning experience with a company, that otherwise would not be possible.

Hadia Bakkar studied political science and media and film studies at Skidmore. Originally from Damascus, Syria, Bakkar is a Post-Grad SEF award recipient, currently working with BBC News' Arabic service as a news desk intern. She discovered her passion for storytelling through joining The Skidmore News and working on MDOCS documentary-driven projects during her time at Skidmore.
