Double H Fall Cleanup Days

Saturdays Sept. 26 and November 7

Project Lift

Project Lift is an after-school program designed for social skill development and homework help for elementary school students. The program is currently looking for help with students for the following days:

Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:15–5 p.m. at Greenfield Elementary School
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:15–5 p.m. at Lake Avenue Elementary School
Fridays, 2:30–4:30 p.m. at Geyser Road Elementary School

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties

As you are aware, Habitat for Humanity is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff. Therefore there are several projects that need tackling. Projects include,

• Clean up and organizing the Habitat office in Queensbury, which will include disposing of old unusable computer equipment and organizing files and supplies.
• Development of board member handbooks is needed; this includes photocopying and organizing binders.
• Organizing the volunteer database using excel software. Strong computer skills will be required for this type of work.

Ongoing administrative needs include:

• Volunteer coordinator: Maintaining the volunteer database, which needs to be better-organized as mentioned above, talking with potential volunteers, organizing volunteers for build days and so on.
• Assistant secretary/donation coordinator: Recording minutes in the absence of our board secretary. On an ongoing basis, sending appropriate acknowledgement letters to donors.

The Salvation Army Learning Center

The Learning Center is in need of volunteer tutors for help with homework, assistance in character education and recreation activities. 

Character education will consist of a theme for the month. Each week will have a group lesson/activity that relates to that week's theme. By the end of the week students will have finished a project or activity that will be displayed in the room. Some of the themes are respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Friday's fun day could include any of the following: a climbing wall, movies, computer and board games, pool table tournament, crafts, science projects, art projects, Jeopardy, Family Feud, special guest lessons (i.e. guitar, sewing, cooking, baking, graphic design, gitness, finance, CPR).

Days and Times:
Monday through Thursday     
2:45–3 p.m.: Arrival, snack, relax     
3–4 p.m.: Homework help     
4–5:45 p.m.: Character education

Fridays—Fun Day     
2:45–3 p.m.: Arrival, snack, relax     
3–4:45 p.m.: Organized Social Activity
