November 8, 2023

Paul Arciero, professor of health and human physiological sciences, published a position stand titled, "International Society of Sports Nutrition Position Stand: Effects of essential amino acid supplementation on exercise and performance," in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. This position stand serves as the scientific foundation to athletes, dietitians, trainers, and other practitioners as to the benefits of supplemental essential amino acids (EAA) in both healthy and resistant (aging/clinical) populations. The paper was co-authored with Michael J. Ormsbee ’02, former visiting assistant professor of health and human physiological sciences.

Ryan Homsey, director of academic advising, composed original music for a feature documentary film, Merchant Ivory, which will world premiere during the DOC NYC festival this November. One work from the score, “Music and Life Mingle,” was performed in July by the Orlando Contemporary Chamber Orchestra.

Heather Hurst, professor of anthropology, directs the San Bartolo-Xultun Archaeological Project, which recently received the 2023 International Archaeological Discovery Award “Khaled al-Assad" with special distinction as the people’s choice prize. San Bartolo’s 7 Deer Inscription was selected among five discoveries worldwide for this distinction, which will be conferred in Salerno, Italy, this week. A video short on “7 Deer” created by Riley Mallory (‘22), SBX documentarian, can be viewed here.

Michael Janairo, manager of communications and strategic initiatives at the Tang Teaching Museum, presented at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, New York, on "Museums and Community: Exploring Opportunities for Shared Authority and Co-Creation" as part of a symposium, "Finding a Path Forward: Addressing Inequitable Museum Practices."

Bernard Possidente, professor of biology, co-authored and presented a poster, "Assessing Genetic Variation for Effects of Lithium on Circadian Clock Period, Sleep Behavior, and Mortality in Fruit Flies," with Noah Fryou ’23 and Mingjia Li ’19 at the 2023 World Sleep Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The oral presentation by Fryou won a New Investigator Award.
