Faculty-Staff Achievements
Debamalya Chatterjee, assistant professor of biology, published two research articles: “Maize unstable factor for orange1 encodes a nuclear protein that affects redox accumulation during kernel development” in The Plant Cell and “Plant defense against insect herbivory: Flavonoid-mediated growth inhibition of Helicoverpa zea” in Plant Stress. He also co-authored a chapter, “New Breeding Trends in Sorghum,” in the book “Omics and Biotechnological Approaches for Product Profile-Driven Sorghum Improvement.”
Daniel A. Nathan, professor of American studies, co-edited a new collection of essays, “Sports through the Lens: Essays on 25 Iconic Photographs” (part of the “Terry and Jan Todd Series on Physical Culture and Sports”). In the book, the authors examine the photos' legacies alongside the artistry of both the athletes and the photographers. Reflecting on images of athletes from around the world engaged in sports from baseball to horse-racing to hockey, “Sports through the Lens” provides a wide-ranging meditation on the visual, historical, and cultural meaning of sports photographs.
Christopher Seaton, professor of mathematics, coauthored "Euler characteristics of linear symplectic quotients and O(2)-spaces" in the Journal of Singularities.
Flagg Taylor, associate professor of political science, published an essay, "The Speech of Freedom," in the winter 2025 issue of National Affairs. The essay originated from remarks delivered at Skidmore's Symposium on speech and expression in the spring of 2023.
Tim Thompson, production manager at Dining Services, Paul Karlson, senior cook, and Allen Lapelle, short order cook — joined by Sommarah Whitbeck, a local high school trainee with Skidmore Dining Services through the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex Board of Cooperative Educational Services (WSWHE BOCES) Career and Technical Education Program, earned a silver medal at the annual American Culinary Federation Competition, hosted by Skidmore College.
