Bio:

Noted for his enthusiasm and energy on the podium, Andrew Burger is a conductor and educator from Niskayuna, New York. He is Artistic Director of the Octavo Singers of Schenectady and also serves as the Director of Music Ministries at the Niskayuna Reformed Church in addition to his Interim capacity at Skidmore College.

Known for his passion for community music making and choral pedagogy for all ages mindset, Andrew brings with him an accomplished CV, the highlights of which include former Artistic Director of the Northern Berkshire Chorale in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Adjunct Professor at RPI, Section Leader for Albany Pro Musica, and Chorus Director for the Albany Symphony. He studied conducting at Bard College under renowned James Bagwell, where he served as Assistant Conductor and Administrator, conducting the Bard Chamber Singers, Bard Symphonic Chorus, and The Orchestra Now.

Selections of Andrew’s musical accomplishments include conducting with Octavos, Handel Messiah and Brahms Requiem, as well as Beethoven Mass in C, Bach Wachet Auf, Durufle Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Bruckner Te Deum, and serving as chorus master for Bernstein Candide. Andrew received his bachelor’s degree in music education from The College of Saint Rose. As a student, he won the Concerto Competition playing Gregson Tuba Concerto. An active vocalist and instrumentalist, Andrew sings throughout the capital region and maintains a small lesson studio for voice. While not pursuing his accomplished and varied musical career, Andrew is foreman and retail manager at his family’s business, a large and thriving vegetable farm and greenhouse in Niskayuna.
