How to Make a Good Recording

• Never hit a +3 on the VU meters
• Try to keep the average recording level up above about - 15 on the VU meters
• If the PEAK LIGHTS come on very often, back off the record level a bit more
• Don't stand too close to the microphone
• Don't sing/talk directly into the mic, rather over it or through a "pop it" filter
• Aim the mic's "cancellation" side (off axis line of mic) at any noise in the room
• Use new tape
• Use a higher recording speed if you want more high frequencies in the recording
• Use a COMPRESSOR on your input signal (to prevent distorting peaks!)
• Use EQ on your input signal to eliminate buzz/humm or unwanted pitches in the room (electrical in nature)
• Mix with REVERB !
• Go ALL DIGITAL, if possible
• Use the best mic for the job
