A Feb. 11 lecture-discussion on the current crisis in Egypt drew an audience eager to hear from two people with strong ties to the country: Sumita Pahwa, lecturer in government, who lived in Egypt while researching the Muslim Brothers, and her husband Steve Negus, a freelance journalist who recently returned from a week there to cover the massive protests.

The couple led with the news that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak had resigned, then shared their views on what led to the unrest and what the future may hold. They indicated that the country may have a good chance of becoming a true democracy and acknowledged some of the challenges ahead.
