In keeping with a fairly recent tradition, Skidmore paused Nov. 11 to host a brief ceremony in honor of Veterans Day.

The event was organized by Jim Kennelly, professor of international business and a veteran, and Herb Crossman, assistant director of human resources for EEO. Parker Diggory, director of religious and spiritual life, led the observance.

Several years ago, Kennelly reached out to the community to encourage attendance at small ceremonies on both Veterans Day and Memorial Day. The observances, held at the campus flagpole near Filene Hall, have “no honor guard, no fireworks—just a short, simple, dignified observance of the day and its meaning,” he said.

Kennelly added, “We have a surprising number of veterans who are members of our immediate, and extended, campus community. This is a way to say ‘thank you’ to them.”

Gerry Wheeler of Glens Falls played “Taps” during  the ceremony.
