Duets to Decahedrons, winter dance concert, Dec. 2 & 3

Duets to Decahedrons, Skidmore's annual Winter Dance Concert, features works choreographed by members of the Dance Department faculty and guest artist Sydney Skybetter, and takes place this weekend.

Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, and 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Skidmore Dance Theater. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for the general public. There are no advanced reservations. The box office opens an hour prior to the curtain.  

The program features the following selections: 

Square One, by Mary Harney, artist-in-residence, a light-hearted look at clich phrases, such as "back to square one."

Deux, by Denise Warner Limoli, associate professor. These are two separate ballet duets performed with the following live musicians: Carol Anne Elze Sussdorff, Piano, accompanist in dance and music; Jack Mallory '15, tenor, Filene Scholar; and guest artist Michael Limoli, clarinet. Duet No. 1 will be presented to Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, song 3; and Duet No. 2, to Francis Poulenc's Sonata for Clarinet & Piano, movement 2.

Unknown Adversaries, by Ruben Graciani, associate professor, an aggressive group piece; Halcyon, by Sydney Skybetter, a serene, atmospheric group piece; Afloat Below the Surface, by Graciani, an emotionally charged contemporary duet; and Heartbreaker, by Debra Fernandez, professor of dance and department chair, a humorous and youthful piece with film projection by John Danison.

Kim Vanyo designed costumes and lighting design is by Lori Dawson.
