Ginsberg co-author of book on EU in global security
Roy H. Ginsberg is co-author with Susan E. Penksa of a new book, The European Union in Global Security (2012, Palgrave Macmillan). Ginsberg is professor of government and the Jean Monnet Chair in European Integration Studies at Skidmore; Penksa is professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at Westmont College in California.
The authors identify and explain the drivers of and brakes to EU foreign-security action and offer methods of assessment to ascertain influence. On the basis of a comprehensive analysis of EU security operations, the authors conclude that the EU has become a niche international security provider.
Javier Solana, former Spanish foreign minister, former NATO secretary general, and first high representative of the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy, authored the book's foreword.
"The authors' template for assessing the impact of crisis management operations should be considered by policy-makers and practitioners who seek to understand ? and improve ? the impact of civilian and military missions," said Jamie Shea, NATO deputy assistant secretary general, in a review. Professor Wolfgang Wessels, Jean Monnet Chair for European Affairs at the University of Cologne in Germany, praised the book's "insightful and comprehensive analyses."
