Statement in response to recent violent acts throughout the nation

November 21, 2022
Dear Skidmore Community,

Many of us have watched with deep concern a series of acts of senseless violence in recent weeks, many of which involve other college communities such as Idaho and Virginia, some that involve LGBTQIA+ communities, and even the shooting incident this past weekend in our own city of Saratoga Springs.

I write today to share my sadness and condemnation of such violence, andalsoto clearly state that our community’s safety and well-being are the College’s utmost priority. We remain dedicated to fostering a safe community of inclusivity and trust at Skidmore. Compassion, care, hope, and peace are our defining principles.

Ifyou are grieving, or feeling anxious or concerned, your Skidmore community is here to support you. We are a community that takes care of one another and spreads kindness and compassion, and there is no place for any form of hate or violence at Skidmore.

Students who wish to reach out for support services may reach out to the Skidmore Counseling Center at any time. Faculty and staff seeking support may call the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 518-793-9768 or 1-800-734-6072.

In this upcoming week, when we celebrate a spirit of giving thanks, I truly hope that you have a restful break, finding time to recharge and reflect on the value of a loving community. Know that even in the most trying of times, your Skidmore community will be here to support you.

Sincerely,

Marc Conner
President
