Important Changes to COVID-19 Testing Schedule

September 30, 2020

Dear Skidmore Community,

Our COVID-19 testing tent schedule is changing and we wanted to let you know why.

Beginning on Saturday, Oct. 3, we will be offering weekend testing hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The testing tent will also be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The testing tent will be closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting the week of Oct. 5.

These changes are required so we can continue to test everyone on a weekly basis through the duration of on-campus learning. Our testing partner, the Broad Institute, has processed more than 1.1 million COVID-19 tests since August 2020 and their weekday processing capacity is at maximum. Sending tests on the weekends will allow them to balance their processing capacity.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as we manage this transition. We have prioritized moving the testing so we may decrease — not increase — the amount of time between testing for individuals as much as possible.

For the remainder of this week, please stay with the regular day of your testing. For instructions on schedules going forward, please read the following carefully.

For students

  • If you are a student and have been tested this week on Monday, Sept. 28, Tuesday, Sept. 29, or Wednesday, Sept. 30, you will need to get tested again this weekend on either Saturday, Oct. 3, or Sunday, Oct. 4, and then move your testing to either Friday, Saturday or Sunday for the remainder of the term.
  • If you are a student and have been testing on Thursdays, we ask that you get tested as usual on Thursday, Oct. 1, and then move your testing schedule to Friday, Saturday or Sunday beginning the second week of weekend testing (Oct. 5).
  • Our goal is to have all students test on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. The majority of testing appointments available to students will be on those days.
  • Because we need to balance the number of tests administered each day, students will now need to show a CoVerified appointment for testing at the testing tent. Students who do not have an appointment beginning Monday, Oct. 5, will not be able to get tested.

For employees

  • Employees can continue their testing schedule on Mondays and Tuesdays. Because employees do not have access to CoVerified, all employee testing will be on a walk-in basis.
  • If you are an employee and were getting tested on Wednesdays or Thursdays, we ask that you move to a Friday schedule beginning the week of Oct. 5.
  • Employees can also get tested on Saturdays or Sundays, if they prefer, but we anticipate that the bulk of the weekend testing will be students.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping to keep our community healthy and safe.

Sincerely,
Patricia Bosen, MSN, FNP-C
Director, Health Services
