Skidmore College

Return to mandatory indoor masking on campus

April 14, 2022

Dear Skidmore Community,

As we see COVID-19 positivity rates continue to trend upward on campus, in the local community, and in the state, we acknowledge the College's limited capacity to provide student isolation space and have thus made the decision to return to mandatory indoor masking through the end of classes, Tuesday, May 3.

While our community is approximately 99% vaccinated and boosted, we are sensitive to the fact that there are people in our community who remain vulnerable, and we feel that this decision is in the best interest of protecting the health and safety of our entire Skidmore community while continuing to provide the full Skidmore education.

KN95 masks (or equivalent masks, i.e. N95 or KF94) will be required in all indoor public spaces, subject to previously approved exceptions. Free KN95 masks continue to be available to all on campus and will be made easily accessible at all events and gatherings.

Testing

As a reminder, free rapid tests are always available to students at Campus Safety by calling ahead, or by appointment at Health Services for individuals who are symptomatic. If you are symptomatic, please get tested.

Drop-in PCR testing remains available to all students, faculty, and staff from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays in Sussman Village Apartment A1.

Events

In accordance with this shift in the College’s masking policy, masking will now be required at all indoor events through May 3.

As outlined in an email message sent to all students and forwarded to all faculty and staff on Monday, April 11, COVID-19 protocols for upcoming campus events will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may include additional required testing and safety measures.

Food and drink are still acceptable at events.

The College will continue to closely monitor CDC guidance and local and regional case levels and, as always, will provide timely updates regarding any changes to policies, procedures, or guidelines.

Once again, I am grateful for our commitment to the safety of our community and our ongoing efforts at understanding, patience, and mutual support as we continue to navigate our way through the challenges of this pandemic.

Sincerely,
Marc Conner
President
