Skidmore ceramic students and Dining Services staff are major contributors to the
first major fund-raising event for an area food pantry.
Empty Bowls, a benefit for the Wilton Food Pantry, is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday,
April 15, at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge No. 161, Route 9, Saratoga Springs. This
is the first official "Empty Bowls" event to take place in Saratoga County. Tickets
are $15 in advance, while supplies last, and may be purchased online at www.wiltonfoodpantry.org.
If available, tickets may be purchased at the door for $20.
The ticket price includes a unique, handcrafted ceramic bowl created by students
of Leslie Ferst from the Skidmore College Department of Art, and soup, chili, and
bread at the event prepared by the chefs of Skidmore's Dining Services. In addition,
guests may bid on silent auction items, including a free stay at the Privilege Aluxes
Resort in Isla Mujeres, Mexico; a Weber grill; a stay at an authentic log camp in
Indian Lake, N.Y.; jewelry, shopping sprees, golf, dining, and more. Attendees will
enjoy music performed by John and Orion Kribs with special guest Doug Moody.
Proceeds from the event will support efforts by the Wilton Food Pantry efto provide Wilton families who are experiencing food insecurity with well-balanced meals. "We are excited to hold our inaugural event at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge so that we can raise awareness about the reality of hunger in our community," said WFP Board President Jared Dinsmore. "We are especially thrilled to welcome our major 'Souper Hero' sponsors, including Saratoga National Bank & Trust Company, Hannaford Supermarkets, and Saratoga Veterinary Hospital."
Since opening in July 2011 the Wilton Food Pantry has provided Wilton residents experiencing food insecurity with emergency food by working together with community members, leaders, and local businesses and organizations to gather, store, and distribute goods, to offer compassionate help by respecting the dignity of each person served; and to inform and educate the community about the issue of hunger in the town of Wilton, New York.
