Spring 2021 COVID-19 Student Pledge

January 21, 2021

Dear Students,

I hope you have had a restorative and enjoyable break! The time goes so fast, and the spring semester is already upon us. Student Affairs and the entire campus community have been preparing for your return, and we look forward to being back in session and seeing you all again in person and online.

Our campus planning has included keeping up with the ever-changing safety and health guidelines about travel, gathering, testing and other important matters. It has also included reading the survey and other data you supplied about what worked well in the fall, what was a challenge in the fall and ideas and suggestions for improvement. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

I am happy to say that as a result of your feedback, a group of eight students spent part of their winter break working on a new pledge for the student body. The need to revise the pledge was identified by students as a priority, and I am happy to share the new COVID-19 Student Pledge here.

One goal of the new pledge is to provide clarity about the expectations. Another goal is to remind us that we are all in this together. Each and every one of us is responsible for keeping our community healthy and safe. There will be many opportunities, including upcoming student forums, for more discussion about how we consistently remain vigilant by testing, mask wearing, limiting gatherings, restricting travel, handwashing and social distancing.

The pledge can be easily accessed in the ‘For Students’ section of the Campus Planning website. Please read and sign the pledge before returning to campus, but no later than Feb. 9.

Note: Parents, faculty and staff can view the full Spring 2021 COVID-19 Student Pledge here.

See you all soon,
Dean Banks
